ACT Wrap: Danning helps Canberra FC into decider

Canberra FC are through to an all-or-nothing play-off for a spot in the FFA Cup Round of 32 after overpowering Belconnen United 3-0 on Thursday night.

Former Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar forward Kofi Danning set the hosts on their way in just the fourth minute and Thomas James struck twice after half-time to put the club on the precipice of a first appearance in the Final Rounds.

To achieve that dream, the NPL Capital Football leaders must now beat mid-table Gungahlin United.

Gungahlin, who reached the Round of 32 in 2015, edged out Woden-Weston in a 4-3 epic on Tuesday night.

Josh Gaspari scored a 112th-minute winner to send his side through to the last stage of the Preliminary Rounds.

It was a far more straightforward assignment for Canberra 48 hours later.

James netted in the 59th and 93rd minutes to confirm what had appeared likely after Danning tapped home at close-range in the opening exchanges.
