30 days to go until Caltex Socceroos' FIFA World Cup 2022 journey begins

With all of the excitement of new seasons in club land, it's easy to forget that in less than a month the Caltex Socceroos' road to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 begins!

In 30 days’ time, head coach Graham Arnold will lead out his team for their opening match of Asian Football Confederation qualifying against Kuwait over in the Middle East.

Another month later, in October, the Caltex Socceroos will reconvene on home soil to face the country from way up in the Himalayan mountains, Nepal, at GIO Stadium in Canberra.

Five days after the clash in the nation’s capital, Arnold’s charges fly out for an away match against Chinese Taipei, before wrapping up the first half of their Group X campaign back in the Persian Gulf, facing Jordan to close out 2019.

Arnold will name his initial FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying squad later this month to travel back to Kuwait - the scene of his first match in charge of the Caltex Socceroos, a 4-0 triumph in Kuwait City. 

The Caltex Socceroos head coach made wholesale changes for the most recent friendly, against Korea Republic in Busan in June. How many of those players will earn a spot in Arnold’s FIFA World Cup qualifying party is to be revealed. 

Form and performances over the opening weeks of their club team’s seasons will be crucial in deciding if those players are involved in the Caltex Socceroos flight plans.
